Physicals & Screenings

Physicals and screenings are medical examinations that assess an individual's overall health and identify potential health issues. Physicals are comprehensive exams that include a review of medical history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests. Screenings are medical tests that are performed to identify a specific health condition or risk factor, even in individuals who may not have symptoms. They may be recommended based on age, gender, family history, or other risk factors. Both physicals and screenings are essential for maintaining good health and detecting potential health problems early.

X-Rays

X-rays are a medical imaging technique that uses ionizing radiation to produce images of bones and other internal structures of the body. X-rays are commonly used to diagnose broken bones, detect infections, and evaluate the health of the lungs, heart, and digestive system. During an X-ray, the body part being examined is exposed to a small amount of radiation, which passes through the body and is detected by a specialized camera or film. The resulting image can help healthcare providers identify abnormalities or conditions that may not be visible during a physical exam. X-rays are generally safe and painless, but may not be suitable for pregnant women or individuals with certain medical conditions.

Stitches

Stitches, also known as sutures, are medical devices used to close wounds or lacerations in the skin or tissue. They are commonly used after surgical procedures, accidents, or injuries. Stitches work by holding the edges of a wound together, which promotes healing and reduces the risk of infection. The type of stitch used will depend on the location and severity of the wound.

After stitches are placed, it is important to care for the wound properly by keeping it clean and dry, avoiding excessive activity or movement that could reopen the wound, and following any specific care instructions provided by a healthcare professional.

Splints

A splint is a medical device used to immobilize and protect a injured bone, joint, or limb. Splints are typically made of rigid materials such as metal or plastic, and are used to provide support and prevent further injury while a person heals. Splints are commonly used to treat fractures, sprains, strains, and other injuries. They are typically applied by a healthcare provider and may be worn for several weeks or longer, depending on the severity of the injury. It is important to follow the healthcare provider's instructions for wearing and caring for the splint to ensure proper healing.

Sinus Infection

Sinus infections, also called sinusitis, occur when the sinuses become inflamed and swollen. The sinuses are air-filled spaces located behind the forehead, nose, and cheeks. Sinusitis can be caused by infections, allergies, or nasal polyps. Symptoms may include facial pain, headache, congestion, runny nose, loss of smell or taste, cough, and fatigue. Treatment may include antibiotics, antiviral medications, over-the-counter medications, nasal irrigation, humidifiers, and steam inhalation. It's important to seek medical attention if symptoms persist for more than a week or worsen despite treatment.

Drug Screenings

Drug screens are medical tests used to detect drugs or their metabolites in a person's body, and can be performed using various methods such as urine, blood, saliva, or hair samples. The results of drug screens can have significant implications for employment, legal proceedings, or medical treatment, so it is important for individuals to disclose any medications or substances they have taken to healthcare providers or employers before undergoing a drug screen.

DOT Physicals

DOT physicals are medical exams required by the Department of Transportation for individuals who operate commercial motor vehicles. The physicals assess the individual's physical and mental health, including vision, hearing, blood pressure, and cardiovascular health. Drug and alcohol testing may also be performed. Those who do not pass may be disqualified from operating a CMV until their health conditions are treated. The frequency of required DOT physicals varies, and it's essential for CMV operators to maintain their health and seek treatment for conditions that could affect their ability to operate their vehicle safely.
